2024 Annual Results Report Trinidad and Tobago
The 2024 Annual Results Report highlights major milestones achieved through collaboration between the United Nations and national partners to promote sustainable development in Trinidad and Tobago. The report documents progress under the Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (MSDCF) 2022โ2026 and reflects the countryโs commitment to building an inclusive, resilient and prosperous society. Through a commitment to strong collaboration with a wide cross-section of stakeholders, alongside a focus on vulnerable populations, efforts in 2024 accelerated national progress across four Priority Areas.
Priority Area 1: Shared Prosperity and Economic Resilience
In 2024, the UN system supported efforts to strengthen Trinidad and Tobagoโs economy by advancing financial inclusion, boosting innovation in agriculture, and expanding access to digital payments. Notable results include support for the countryโs National Financial Inclusion Strategy, innovations in agriculture through digitalisation and the promotion of sustainable, climate-smart agricultural techniques, support for digital payments and solar power installations at 18 sites to accelerate the country's transition to clean energy.
Priority Area 2: Equality, Well-being and Leaving No One Behind
Progress was made in improving access to health, education, and social protection services, with a focus on leaving no one behind. UN-backed advocacy helped integrate refugee and migrant children into the national school system. There was also a national shift toward family-based childcare over institutionalisation, using data-driven strategies to enhance child well-being. New tools like mental health text lines for youth, multidimensional poverty analysis, and expanded sexual and reproductive health services contributed to long-term well-being for the population.
Priority Area 3: Resilience to Climate Change/Shocks and Sustainable Natural Resource Management
Efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness, climate adaptation, and environmental protection included new planning tools, specialised training and the promotion of sustainable practices. Key achievements ranged from the expansion of renewable energy use to the development of national policies on plastic pollution and clean air. Enhanced logistics and emergency systems were tested and updated to respond more effectively to future shocks, including natural disasters and public health emergencies.
Priority Area 4: Peace, Safety, Justice and the Rule of Law
Trinidad and Tobago recorded progress in countering human trafficking, modernising its justice system, and enhancing public safety. A multi-sectoral approach led to an improved ranking in the U.S. Trafficking in Persons report. Legal reforms, digital court systems and training in areas such as gender-based violence, cybersecurity, and arms trafficking helped improve justice outcomes. Initiatives also strengthened civil societyโs role in governance and broadened access to justice, especially for marginalised groups.
The United Nations remains deeply committed to working in partnership with the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago to achieve their development priorities. By focusing on national ownership, inclusion and sustainability, the UN and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago continue to build a more resilient, equitable, and prosperous future.
