COP26 builds on the commitments from the 2015 Paris Agreement that set the global ambition to limit temperatures to an internationally-agreed threshold of 1.5 degrees. This has been further supported by the latest findings of the recent IPCC report, which highlights the need to urgently put measures in place for “greener” policies to reduce emissions. The green economy also augurs well in the context of the post-COVID-19 recovery for building a sustainable, climate resilient and inclusive economy.

The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and the British High Commission will jointly host a Pre-COP26 Seminar on Transitioning to the Green Economy to stimulate national dialogue on this watershed moment for the planet. This seminar follows the Parliamentary Symposium on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement hosted by the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago and UNDP in June 2021. Of particular interest in our Pre-COP26 seminar is the discussion on financing a green economic transition in Trinidad and Tobago. A distinguished panel of speakers will discuss the role of governments, academia, civil society, international financial institutions and development partners, in supporting the green economy transition in Trinidad and Tobago.
