United Nations Trinidad and Tobago launches Human Rights Day Competition - "The World I Want"

The UN RCO in T&T, together with the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights has launched an art competition for Human Rights Day on 10th December 2020.
The Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator (RCO) in Trinidad and Tobago, together with the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights is organizing an art competition for Human Rights Day on 10th December 2020. The contest is geared towards this year’s theme, Recover Better: Stand up for Human Rights. The campaign is aimed at showcasing “The World I Want” which highlights the importance of human rights in building back a better world post- COVID-19 by strengthening the commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
How to Participate:
- Learn more about the Sustainable Development Goals: https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/
- Select one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals and create artwork which demonstrates the link between the chosen goal and how it relates to the “The World I want”
- Entries may be drawn, painted or sketched using pens, pencils, crayons or charcoal, or using oil, acrylic or watercolour paint, as well as mixed media. Digitally created artwork is also permitted.
General Rules
- The contest is open to two (2) age groups:

- Minors (Ages 12 - 17)
- Youth (Ages 18 – 25)

IMPORTANT: For Minors (Ages 12 – 17) eager to participate in the competition, they will need their parents or guardians to submit on their behalf.
- Submission deadline is Sunday 6th December 2020; winners will be announced shortly after.
- Five entries in each age group (ten in total) will be selected for the shortlist by the screening committee and will be digitized and displayed as a virtual mural. All shortlisted candidates will receive a gift bag.
- UN staff members (including interns and consultants) are not eligible to apply.
- All entries not respecting the theme, or the technical/authorship requirements set out below will not be considered.
Submissions
- Be creative and show the importance of human rights in creating “The World I Want”
- Art work entries will be judged based on creativity, composition, theme and technique.
- All art works must be original and the creators retain all copyright of the materials submitted. Art work should not contain photographic images of the contestant nor other personal information.
- Contestants may submit multiple entries.
- Contestants must include their full name, age, school and contact information in the email accompanying their submissions.
Prizes
An independent panel of judges will review and decide on the winning submissions.

Contestants must submit the scanned art works by Sunday 6th December 2020 midnight to: communications@untrinidadandtobago.org . E-mails shall include the name and age of the contestant, contact information and the school they represent.
