The chance to re-imagine the "World I Want" encouraged over 150 young artists to enter the Human Rights Day Art competition. The competition's theme challenged contestants to create a piece of art that highlighted the value of human rights amid the global recovery from COVID-19.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Trinidad and Tobago and the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights partnered for this initiative, splitting the artists into two categories: Youth (ages 12 to 17) and Adult (ages 18 to 25). In the first category, Chriselle Whitney Benjamin placed first, while Kyael Sammy and Azizah Mohammed came in second and third respectively. In the second category, Josiah Espinoza won first place, Jernice Trayann Downes came in second and Sinaed Assee came in third.
Prizes for first place in both categories include spending a day as the United Nations Resident Coordinator and a Samsung Tablet. Both second place winners will receive one pair of Apple Air Pods and both third place winners are getting an Amazon gift card. All prizes will be distributed in January 2021.
Congratulations to all our winners and participants. Your artwork was truly impressive!
